Selling Your Junk Car? How To Prepare For The Junk Car Buyer

by Kathryn Harris

If you're going to sell your junk car, don't proceed until you've done some prep work. You might not realize this, but a little prep work will help alleviate some of the problems associated with selling a junk car. Here are four steps to take before you sell your car to a junk car buyer

Do Your Homework

If you want to sell your junk car for some quick cash, be sure to do your homework first. You might think that you'll get the same price from every junk car buyer, but that's not necessarily the case. To make sure you get the best price for your junk car, take the time to request quotes from various salvage yards. However, don't limit your search. Instead of contacting salvage yards near you, expand your search. Many junk car buyers will travel to your area to purchase your junk car.

Gather Your Paperwork

If you need to sell your old car, but you don't have proper documentation, take the time to gather your paperwork. You might not know this, but you won't get full price for your car if you don't have the right documentation. First, you'll want to have the title for your car. Second, you'll want to have the current registration for your car. Finally, if you have a vehicle history report for your junk car, be sure to provide that as well. This documentation can help you get a better price from your junk car buyer.

Do a Quick Cleaning Job

If you're trying to sell your car to a junk car buyer, you might think that you can send it off in as-is condition. However, that's not necessarily the case. You don't need to take care of repairs, but you should give your car a good cleaning before you sell your car to a salvage yard or junk car buyer. Cleaning your car may help to increase the value of your car, which can translate into more money in your pocket. While you're cleaning the car, don't forget to remove all of your personal property.

Keep Your License Plates

Finally, if you're going to sell your car for junk, you'll want to contact your local DMV. Depending on where you live, you may need to keep your license plates. You might not know this, but some states require you to retain possession of your license plates. If your state requires this step, you'll need to take the license plates off of your car before you sell it to a junk car buyer.
